CA (Chief Adviser) Fact Check has stated that the claim made by India Today—that Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus presented the Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee with a flag depicting a map of Bangladesh that includes India’s northeastern region—is completely false and fabricated.
The Indian news outlet reported yesterday that Professor Yunus had gifted General Sahir Shamshad Mirza such a flag. However, according to CA Fact Check, what Professor Yunus actually presented was a collection of artworks titled The Art of Triumph, which compiles colorful graffiti and murals painted by students across the country, including in Dhaka, during the July uprising.
The Art of Triumph is a visual document published by the July Memorial Foundation, portraying the history of the revolution achieved through the sacrifice of students and citizens. The cover of the graffiti collection depicts a red-tinted map of Bangladesh behind martyr Abu Sayed, one of the heroes of the July uprising.
CA Fact Check clarified that since the map was drawn as graffiti, some may perceive slight distortions in its proportions compared to Bangladesh’s actual map. However, the claim that the graffiti includes any part of India’s northeastern region is entirely baseless and imaginary. A comparative analysis between Bangladesh’s official map and the artwork shows that the drawn map almost exactly reflects the real one.
The Chief Adviser had previously presented the same graffiti collection, The Art of Triumph, to several world leaders, including the United Nations Secretary-General, former U.S. President Joe Biden, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
