Recently, a photocard bearing the design of DBC News and the caption “Bangladesh does not run on expatriates’ money” has circulated on social media, claiming to quote the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.
Fact-check
Rumor Scanner’s investigation found that the Press Secretary did not make any such remark titled “Bangladesh does not run on expatriates’ money,” nor did DBC News publish any photocard or report with that claim. In fact, the circulated image was created by editing a different photocard originally published by DBC News containing another comment by Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
Upon examining the viral photocard, it was found to display the DBC News logo and mention the publication date as October 8, 2025. However, no such photocard or report was found on DBC News’s official Facebook page or website corresponding to that date. Additionally, no information supporting the claim could be found in any other media outlet or reliable source.
A photocard posted on DBC News’s official Facebook page on October 8 was found during the investigation. The comparison showed that except for the text, all visual elements matched the viral photocard. The original DBC News photocard read, “In many cases, Bangladeshis have to go to New Delhi to apply for visas. The Chief Adviser wants these complications to be resolved quickly.” Moreover, the font used in the headline of the viral photocard differs from that used in DBC News’s original design.
Therefore, it is evident that the viral photocard titled “Bangladesh does not run on expatriates’ money,” circulated in the name of DBC News and attributed to Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, was digitally edited from DBC News’s original photocard.
