A video titled “New Project for Bangladeshi Citizens” has recently been circulated on social media platforms, claiming that the government has launched an investment platform through which citizens can earn approximately BDT 120 million per month. The video features an interview with Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, who is introduced as the Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission formed by the interim government of Bangladesh. It further claims that an investment of only BDT 30,500 guarantees a monthly return of around BDT 120 million.
Fact-Check
Rumor Scanner’s investigation reveals that the claim suggesting the government has launched such an investment platform and that one can earn massive profits through a BDT 30,500 investment is unfounded. In reality, a previously aired interview of Dr. Ali Riaz on the domestic electronic media outlet “Ekhon TV,” regarding political reforms, has been manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to propagate the false claim.
At the beginning of the investigation, a reverse image search of a still frame from the video led to the discovery of the original interview titled “Face-to-Face with Dr. Ali Riaz on Questions of Reform,” published on Ekhon TV’s YouTube channel on June 9. Although the visuals of the 8-minute 34-second-long interview resemble those in the circulated video, discrepancies in the audio (voice) are clearly noticeable. In the authentic interview, Dr. Ali Riaz does not make any statement concerning such an investment initiative.
Further examination of the circulated video reveals inconsistencies in Dr. Ali Riaz’s voice, abnormal lip movements, and irregularities in his natural presentation, none of which are present in the original interview.
Subsequent keyword searches across domestic and international news media, as well as credible sources, yielded no information indicating the existence of any such investment initiative by the government.
To verify further, Rumor Scanner tested the video using the ‘Deepfake-o-meter’ tool. Three separate models within the tool assessed the video, each estimating with over 95% certainty that the content was AI-generated. The ‘AVSRDD (2025)’ model, in particular, concluded with 100% probability that the video had been created using artificial intelligence.
Therefore, the video in which Dr. Ali Riaz appears to endorse a government-launched investment platform is AI-generated and falsely promotes a fabricated claim on social media.
