A video has been circulated on social media claiming to show a public protest march in Gopalganj in response to attacks on NCP leaders.

A video has been circulated on social media claiming to show a public protest march in Gopalganj in response to attacks on NCP leaders. However, the video in question actually depicts a protest by students of Carmichael College in Rangpur against the recent violence targeting July campaigners of the NCP in Gopalganj. The footage has been misrepresented as a mass demonstration in Gopalganj.

On July 16, clashes erupted in Gopalganj centering around the NCP’s July march. The events included vandalism, arson, and the detonation of crude bombs. At least five people have been reported dead so far in confrontations between law enforcement and supporters of the ruling Awami League. A joint task force is currently conducting a special operation across the district to apprehend those involved in the attacks.

Following this, a video titled “Alhamdulillah, once again Gopalganj is rising” began circulating on social media platforms, claiming to capture scenes of a protest rally in Gopalganj.

Fact-check

Upon investigation by the Rumor Scanner team, it was found that the video is not from a protest in Gopalganj. Rather, it shows a demonstration by students of Carmichael College in Rangpur protesting against the attacks on the July campaigners in Gopalganj.

The investigation began by tracing the logo visible in the video, which led to the Facebook page of local Rangpur-based media outlet ‘DRB News’. On July 16, 2025, DRB News published a video titled “Protest by Carmichael College students against the attack on July campaigners in Gopalganj | DRB NEWS”. The first 15 seconds of this video are identical to the video that was widely circulated with the false claim.

In the original DRB video, students can be heard chanting slogans such as “There will be no shelter for terrorists in this Bengal,” “Action, action, direct action,” “Direct action against Chhatra League,” and “Direct action against Awami League.” However, the slogans heard in the circulated video—such as “In memory of ’71, we fear not death,” “Don’t come to Gopalganj or your back will be skinned,” and “My land, my home will not become Pakistan”—are not present in the original footage.

Additionally, other videos from different angles of the same event have been posted by various media outlets and Facebook accounts, further confirming that the footage is from Rangpur and not from Gopalganj.

Therefore, it is confirmed that the protest by Carmichael College students in Rangpur against the attack on July campaigners in Gopalganj has been falsely portrayed as a mass protest by the public in Gopalganj, which is untrue.
