A video has recently been shared on the social media platform X with the caption: “There is no rule of law in the country. Anyone can loot anyone, kill anyone as they please. Meanwhile, a few sycophants are constantly promoting on Facebook that law and order is better than in the last 100 years. Apparently, they want to live like this forever.” In the video, a group of individuals can be seen attacking another group using sticks and sharp weapons.

Fact-check

An investigation by Rumor Scanner reveals that the video being circulated does not depict any incident from Bangladesh. Instead, the footage originates from Haryana, a state in India. Upon examining the video, writings in Hindi are visible on walls behind several vehicles.

Following this lead, a matching video was found in a post published on April 5 by the regional Indian online news platform FCN24 News on their official Facebook page. The footage shows strong similarities to the one being shared. According to a translation of the Hindi caption of the original post, a violent attack took place in India Colony where five members of a single family were assaulted with axes and knives.

Further verification led to a report published on April 5 on the website of Indian news outlet Bhaskar, titled “Fight between two parties over a dispute in Faridabad: Attack with axe and knife, several family members who came to rescue injured.” The visuals in this report match the video being circulated.

According to the report, the incident occurred on the night of April 4 in the 24-Foot Road area of India Colony in the Khedi locality of Faridabad. The violence broke out during an altercation between two brothers, and when a neighbor attempted to mediate, he and later his family members were beaten.

Therefore, the video being shared to portray Bangladesh’s current law and order situation is in fact from India and is entirely false.
