A claim titled “I’m currently beside the cantonment, gunfire is ongoing inside, nine army personnel killed” has recently been circulated on social media platforms.
Fact-Check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner Team found that no incident of nine army personnel being killed in gunfire inside the cantonment has occurred. Rather, the false claim was propagated by citing a so-called report published on a Blogspot website with a free domain, which lacked any credible or verifiable sources.
In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that posts promoting the claim included a link to a blog post as the source. Upon analysis, the site — sadhinnews247.blogspot.com — appears to be a dubious platform operating under a free domain, lacking editorial transparency and credibility.
The link led to an article titled “Terrible Militant Attack at Dhaka Cantonment: 9 Army Personnel Killed, 2 Militants Dead.” According to the post, a severe militant attack allegedly took place around midnight at the highly secured Dhaka Cantonment. It claimed that nine army personnel were killed and twelve injured in the attack, while two militants were reportedly shot dead and one apprehended during a counter-operation by the army. The report also alleged, citing unnamed eyewitnesses and military sources, that an armed militant group tried to infiltrate the eastern entrance of the cantonment at midnight, opened fire with heavy weapons, and targeted a main security checkpoint.
However, upon reviewing the official Facebook page of the Bangladesh Army and the website of the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), no information confirming such an event was found. No credible news outlet or related source has reported any such incident supporting the claims.
It is notable that Rumor Scanner’s Investigation Unit recently published a detailed report on similar free domain sites, which revealed the involvement of organized networks behind such disinformation platforms.
Therefore, the information circulated regarding gunfire and the death of nine army personnel at the cantonment is entirely false and fabricated.
