Recently, a piece of information titled “Attempt to assassinate Chief Advisor, Dr. Yunus seriously injured – full details in comment” has been circulating on social media platforms.
Fact-check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team has confirmed that no attempt was made to assassinate Dr. Yunus, nor has he sustained any serious injury. Rather, the widely circulated claim has been found to lack any factual basis or supporting evidence.
Upon further inquiry, it was discovered that several Facebook posts containing the claim cited a website link as the source. The Rumor Scanner’s analysis indicates that the site in question—newsbangla.my.id—appears to be a dubious platform. It published a so-called news report titled “Attempt to assassinate Chief Advisor, Dr. Yunus seriously injured,” but the post lacks a publication date.
Upon reviewing the report, no credible reference or source could be found to support the claims of an assassination attempt or injury involving Dr. Yunus. The only element included is a screenshot, in which the individual’s face is not clearly visible.
Moreover, any incident involving an assassination attempt on a public figure such as Dr. Yunus, particularly one resulting in serious injury, would be expected to receive extensive coverage in the national media. However, no such reports have appeared in any mainstream media outlets in the country.
It is noteworthy that yesterday, April 9, Dr. Yunus met with the UK Trade Envoy, Baroness Rosie Winterton, at the state guesthouse Jamuna. During the meeting, he was seen speaking in good health and in a normal state.
Therefore, the claim that an assassination attempt was made on Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus and that he was seriously injured is false.
