Fact Check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus has not resigned, nor have the advisers left the country. Additionally, former coordinators Hasnat and Sarjis have not gone into hiding. In reality, due to rumors spreading on social media regarding these claims, Awami League activists held a showdown in January. Several individuals were detained during this event. The video currently circulating was created by cutting and reusing a portion of a previous news report broadcast by the outlet Kalbela, specifically from the segment where the anchor presents the news.

Further investigation using keyword searches based on the anchor’s words led to the original report published on Kalbela's YouTube channel on January 25, titled “Hearing Advisers Resigned, Awami League Leaders Come Out, Then…”. A review of the report confirms that the same initial portion of the anchor's news reading appears verbatim in the video now being circulated. According to the report, after hearing rumors on social media about the resignation of Dr. Yunus and the interim government, advisers fleeing the country, and former coordinators going into hiding, Awami League activists in hiding appeared in a showdown in Chatkhil, Noakhali. Following the event, local BNP members reportedly assisted police in detaining two union-level Awami League leaders, Ibrahim Khalil Russell and Golam Kibria Liton, from Chatkhil Bazaar.

The same video report was also found on the media outlet’s official Facebook page.

In essence, an old news segment regarding the arrest of two Awami League leaders, following a showdown reportedly sparked by rumors of Dr. Yunus’s resignation, has been edited and repurposed to support the current false claim on TikTok.

Moreover, no supporting reports could be found from any mainstream or credible news source to verify the claims made in the video, even after conducting extensive keyword searches.

Therefore, the claims regarding the resignation of Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the interim government, the advisers fleeing the country, and the coordinators including Hasnat and Sarjis going into hiding are entirely false.
