From midnight of August 30 until 3 PM the following Sunday, a series of clashes broke out between students and residents of the adjacent Zobera village near Chattogram University. At least 220 individuals from both sides were reported injured in the conflict. In the aftermath, a video began circulating on social media showing scenes of multiple vehicles belonging to the army and RAB being vandalized. It was claimed that the incident occurred at Chattogram University.
Fact-Check
Rumor Scanner Team's investigation reveals that the claim about vandalism of multiple army and RAB vehicles at Chattogram University is false. The video in question is actually from a separate incident that took place in Ashulia in September 2024 during a clash between workers and law enforcement agencies.
During the verification process, a video of the same incident was found on Facebook, posted on September 30, 2024, by an account named Mehedi Hasan Talukdar. The caption of the post identifies the footage as depicting a clash between joint forces and workers in Ashulia.
Further investigation led to a detailed report on the news website BD24Live, which confirmed the clash on September 30 in Savar’s Ashulia area. According to the report, at least 30 workers were injured, including two who sustained gunshot wounds. Law enforcement vehicles—at least five—were vandalized during the unrest. A photo of a vandalized RAB vehicle was also included in the report.
On the same day, national daily The Business Standard reported that a worker named Kawsar Hossain Khan (27) was shot dead during the clash between workers from several factories and security forces in the Ashulia industrial zone of Savar. At least 30 others were injured, with five sustaining gunshot wounds and receiving treatment at different hospitals.
Therefore, a video from an unrelated incident in September 2024 is being falsely circulated as footage of vandalism involving army and RAB vehicles at Chattogram University, which is untrue.
