On September 1st, a video captioned “Top military officials including the three service chiefs at Jamuna late at night. Something is about to happen at Jamuna. Remove Yunus, save the country” began circulating on social media.

Fact-check

Rumor Scanner's investigation found that the video in question does not depict a recent visit by the chiefs of the three armed forces to the Chief Adviser’s residence at Jamuna. In fact, the video has been online since at least October of last year.

During the investigation, a video posted on October 9 last year from the account of Yasmin Sultana Polin, President of the UK chapter of the Jubo Mohila League, was found. The video matches the one currently being circulated. In that post from October, Awami League leader Polin claimed the video showed the military surrounding the Chief Adviser’s residence at Jamuna.

Following that post, Rumor Scanner published a fact-check story based on their own investigation into the claim. At that time, the fact-checkers found no evidence to support the assertion made in the video.

Therefore, the video now being circulated, allegedly showing senior military officials entering the Chief Adviser’s residence at Jamuna, is not recent. The earlier claim attached to the same video was also found to be baseless.

It is worth noting that on August 31, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and NCP leaders held a meeting with the Chief Adviser at Jamuna. Additionally, on the morning of September 1, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman met with the Chief Adviser at the same location.

Hence, an old video has been falsely circulated as evidence of a recent late-night entry of top military officials into the Chief Adviser’s residence at Jamuna — a claim that is untrue.
